To talk about Alicante is to talk about the Costa Blanca and its 150 kilometers of coastline that abound with fine sandy beaches equipped with the finest services.
The beaches on the Playa Blanca or the beaches in Alicante as they are also called are divided into two parts. The first part, which goes from the limit of of the province of Valencia to the city of Alicante and the second which stretches from Alicante to the border with Murcia.
The first stretch which has over 90 kilometers of coastline includes the most important tourist destination of the area, Benidorm, with it beaches Lavante and Poniente and thousands upon thousands of tourists during the summer months. It is worth noting that 6 of every 10 tourists that visit the Valencian community choose to stay in VBenidorm, a statistic that climbs to 80% when we include Alicante in the statistics. On the same stretch you also find Denia, with its direct ferry connections to the Balearic's, as well as many small fishing villages such as Javea o Calpe, San Juan or El Campello. It is also worth mentioning Marina Alta y la Marina Baja, two towns that still keep the original identities of this historic region.
The second stretch, the one that goes from Alicante to the Murcian borders has over 60 kilometers of coastline with a great offer of tourist destinations for visitors to the region. Towns such as Santa Pola abnd Elche, the last one famous for being the capital of the palm groves. Santa Pola and Guardamar del Segura are two municipalities that hold some real historical treasures, the island of Tabarca, in front of Santa Pola is a small two kilometer island and only 400 meters wide. Tabarca and the Segura river mouth are two of the richest natural resources in the area. They are great diving zones with hidden paradises below the water line. The river mouth is a special zone with sand dunes and woods.
Torrevieja and Orihuela are two towns worth mentioning in this zone, both very busy tourist destinations further south along the coastline.
