Naturally Alicante is at its busiest during the summer months, so if you are looking for sun, sea and sand at a quiter time of the year, we recommend visiting the city during the months of April, May, September and October, although Alicante offers nice weather all year round. It is even known for people to bathe in the sea during December!
The main advantage of visiting out of high season is not only the less hectic atmosphere but also the cheaper accommodation prices.
If however you are set on visiting during high season, be sure to check out the numerous aquatic sports on offer. Snorkelling, sailing and windsurfing in nearby Santa Pola are all popular activities on this section of the Costa Blamca.
There are also several festivals and parades throughout the year that bring large numbers of tourists to the city, including Holy Week, the Carnival, Santa Faz amd Moors and Christians among the more popular ones.
If you visit in June, make sure you catch the famous 'Las Hogueras' festival, by far the most important festival in Alicantes calendar. The festival takes place between the 20-24 June.
If you are passing through Alicante and you are short on time, the 'must-see' sites include the Santa Barbara Castle, a stroll through the historic centre, a typical Alicante Paella and a stroll through the Explanada.
