Excursion to the interior of the province of Alicante, Spain

Alicante is a touristic destination thanks to its beaches and its infrastructure of hotels and for all the tourist items that it has to offer. But apart from its 160 kilometers of coastlina Alicante also has a rich inland area to discover.

When we talk about the inland areas of Alicante we can talk about various things. Firstly is its rural development with farms and livestock and secondly its industrial elements all based around the Vinalopo river. Based on the banks of this river a lot of industrial growth has taken place.

A great charcteristic of many of the inland towns in the Alicante region are the castles that the majority o them have, symbols of the age old defense against invaders. The interior of Alicante as well as defending itself from invasion from the sea it has a natural border with the Castillian kingdom. Of all the towns in the interior region of Alicante it is worth mentioning Novelda, Elda, Prtre and Sax, but they are by no means the only ones worth visiting.

Another inland area to consider is the area around the Alcoyana mountain, its name coming from its location geographically between Alcoy and El Comsat. Three more regions in the interior of Alicante that you shouldn't miss on your visit are Jijona, Elche and Crevillente.
